1.1.1 Indigenous Knowledge (2)

Indigenous Knowledge refers to the knowledge, skills, beliefs and practices that have been
developed and passed down from one generation to another within a particular community.
This knowledge is based on people's experiences, interaction with their environment, and
cultural traditions, and is used to guide everyday life and decision-making (IEA1501 Study
Guide, Unit 3).

1.1.2 Totem (2)

A totem is a plant, animal or natural object that is regarded as having a special symbolic
relationship with a family, clan or community. Totems help people identify their ancestry,
strengthen social bonds and promote respect for certain species within society (Learning Unit
3).

1.1.3 Taboos (2)

Taboos are cultural rules or prohibitions that discourage people from engaging in certain
actions, behaviours or practices that are considered unacceptable by a community. They are
often used to maintain social order, protect cultural values and conserve natural resources

1.1.4 Proverbs (2)

Proverbs are short traditional sayings that communicate wisdom, moral lessons and practical
