1.1 LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT:
There is no common first language among students in a multilingual classroom –
therefore we as teachers must create a basis and some sort of foundation in which
we can get all the students on the same page, it is vital that the students understand
the primary medium in which they will be taught most if not all their schooling life.
Students have different learning styles – therefore as a teacher one should formulate
an effective and structured way to teach so that every learner benefits and
understands with ease.
1.2 CRITICAL LITERACY:
Objective: (of a person or their judgement) not prejudiced by personal feelings or
opinions in considering and representing facts. Objective information or evaluation is
fact-based, measurable and observable, and is seen to work together with an
informative language form ,since it reflects on writings
Subjective information or writing is based on personal opinions, understandings,
points of view, emotions and reasoning. It is often considered ill-suited for scenarios
like news reporting or decision making in business or politics and is seen to go hand
in hand with an expressive language form.
1.3 LEXICAL SEMANTICS:
1.3.1 Antonyms is the use of prefixes and suffixes to a root word.
Antonyms (also known as opposites) may take the format of a prefix or a suffix to
create opposite meanings.
1.3.2 Collocation is the use of appropriate conjunctions to link sentences in
paragraph.
Collocation is the regular grouping of words to facilitate a better understanding of the
text.
1.3.3 The smallest unit of sound that has meaning is called phonetics.
The smallest unit of sound that has meaning is called a phoneme. Phonetics is a
branch of linguistics that deals with the classification and the production of speech
sounds.
