Question 1 (25 Marks)
Classroom management involves the effective application of management functions to
create an environment that promotes discipline, learner participation, and academic
success. As a teacher, I would integrate the functions of planning, organising, leading,
monitoring, and coordinating to establish a cohesive classroom management system that
supports both teaching and learning. These functions are interconnected and collectively
contribute to achieving educational goals and maintaining an orderly classroom
environment (Van Deventer & Kruger, 2020).
Planning serves as the foundation of classroom management because it involves setting
learning objectives, preparing lessons, developing classroom rules, and determining suitable
teaching strategies. Effective planning ensures that classroom activities are purposeful and
aligned with curriculum requirements. It also allows teachers to anticipate challenges and
prepare appropriate interventions before problems arise. When lessons are carefully
planned, learners remain engaged in meaningful learning activities, reducing opportunities
for disruptive behaviour and increasing the likelihood of academic success (Van Deventer &
Kruger, 2020).
Organising complements planning by ensuring that resources, time, learning materials, and
classroom activities are arranged efficiently. As a teacher, I would organise the physical
learning environment, establish routines, and allocate responsibilities in a manner that
promotes effective learning. An organised classroom creates structure and clarity, enabling
learners to understand expectations and participate productively in classroom activities.
Effective organisation contributes to a positive learning atmosphere and allows
instructional time to be used efficiently (Steyn, Van Niekerk, Beets & Wolhuter, 2017).
