6 Summary

The protagonist of the novel is Katniss Everdeen, who does not have an easy
life. She was born in a land called Panem, built on the ruins of former North
America, divided into twelve districts. Each region is different from each other.
Katniss lives in the poorest District 12, specializing in mining. Her mother
became depressed after her husband’s death, so Katniss has to look after her
sister and support her family. She is a poacher - she hunts animals with her
friend Gaul. Living in District 12 is just a boring existence, people are so poor
that they barely have enough to eat, and they often starve to death. The only
state event held there is the annual harvest festival, where youth - boy and girl -
aged 12 to 18 are chosen to represent the district at the Hunger Games. During
the draw in District 12, little sister Katniss is elected as female representative,
and this year is taking part in the "election" for the first time. Terrified and
surprised, our main character volunteers, because she wants to protect her sister
from inevitable death. She is hailed as a hero because she is the first person in
the history of the district to volunteer. The boy who will accompany her is
Peeta. They stay for a few days at the Capitol, Panem's capital. It is an
unimaginably rich place. Therefore, what the heroes see there goes beyond their
wildest imaginations. They are trained there and can see their opponents.
Katniss goes to the arena, where he faces professionals who are trained from an
early age to hit the arena. She teams up with a 12-year-old girl, Rue. When Rue
is killed, she asks Katniss to win the Hunger Games, and soon there are only
Katniss and Peeta left. According to an earlier statement, the rules were changed
and two tributes from the same district could win. It turns out it was a lie.
Katniss and Peeta decide to get back at the Capitol - Panem's capital where the
authorities were - and they want to eat poisoned berries. Then the authorities
again restore the new law.

1 The first page of your book

The first page of the book tells how Katniss wakes up in the morning. She
stretched her fingers seeking for the warmth of her little sister Prim but she
found only a cold mattress. Her sister cocooned in their mother's body. When
Katniss looked at them, she realized that her mother looks younger when she
was asleep but still a little worn. Prim on the other hand looked fresh and
beautiful, on her knees was sitting the "ugliest" cat in the world. Her sister
brought this cat a few years ago, he was missing a part of his ear and belly
swollen with worms. Eventually he stayed with them and hunted rats at home.
