Nucleus:-
● Central part of cell
● Round and enclosed by a double layer perforated membrane (thin membrane)
● Found in eukaryotic organisms
Functions:-
(i) controls and coordinates the function of every cell organelle.
(ii) Helps to transfer heredity characters
(iii) Takes part in cell division.
The nucleus is divided in four parts which are explained below:
1. Nuclear membrane:This double-layered, perforated elastic membrane,
composed of lipids and proteins, protects the nucleus and regulates material
exchange between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
2. Nucleolus: This dense, non-membranous structure inside the nucleus is
composed of protein and RNA and is involved in ribosome synthesis; it
disappears during cell division.
3. Nucleoplasm: This is the viscous liquid found within the nuclear envelope.
4. Chromatin fibres: This complex of DNA and proteins (histones) packages the
genetic material. It condenses into chromosomes during cell division.
