Dubai International Airport was selected because it is one of the world’s busiest
international airports and serves passengers through three terminals that connect
travellers with many global and regional destinations. Its size, transport links,
shopping areas, restaurants, passenger services and technology provide a useful
example of how an airport can create a pleasant experience during different stages
of travel (Dubai Airports, 2026a). This discussion focuses on departure, airport
facilities and arrival, while using the main airport experience factors covered in
TRT2601 Lesson 3.
2. Dubai International Airport as the Selected Airport
Transport is an important part of tourism because it connects travellers with
destinations and affects the ease with which tourists can reach attractions,
accommodation and other tourism services. A destination that is difficult to reach
may struggle to attract visitors, while efficient transport can improve accessibility and
support tourism development within the destination (Erasmus, 2017). Dubai
International Airport supports this role by connecting Dubai with a very wide
international air network and by linking passengers with the city through several
ground transport choices.
The airport is served by many airlines, including Emirates, flydubai, Ethiopian
Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, EgyptAir and several
other international carriers. Emirates mainly operates from Terminal 3, while flydubai
