A LETTER TO GOD
Lencho’s Sadness After the Hailstorm
Lencho was a hardworking farmer who lived with his family on the crest of a low hill. He
depended entirely on his crops for survival. His corn field was his only source of income,
and he worked tirelessly to ensure a good harvest.

Lencho’s Hope Crushed by the Hailstorm
One day, in the hope of a good harvest, Lencho watched the sky for rain. When it finally
began to rain, he was overjoyed. But soon the pleasant rain turned into a violent hailstorm.
The hailstones destroyed all his crops. The field looked as if it was covered with salt.
Lencho became deeply upset knowing that his family would face hunger.

Lencho’s Strong Belief in God
Even after losing everything, Lencho did not give up hope. He had unshakable faith in
God. He believed that God sees everything and never leaves his children hungry. So he
decided to write a letter to God, asking for 100 pesos to sow his field again and support his
family until the next harvest.

The Postmaster’s Response
When Lencho’s letter reached the post office, the postmaster and other employees were
surprised. The postmaster was moved by Lencho’s firm faith in God. To help him, he
collected money from the staff and added some from his own salary. But they could gather
only 70 pesos, which they sent to Lencho, signing the letter “God.”

Lencho’s Disappointment and His Second Letter
When Lencho received the money, he became angry because the amount was less than
what he had requested. He was certain that God would never make a mistake. Therefore, he
blamed the post office employees for stealing the remaining money. He wrote another letter
to God, asking Him to send the leftover 30 pesos, but not through the post office, as he
called the employees “a bunch of crooks.”

Conclusion: Faith, Kindness, and Irony
Lencho’s story teaches us the power of faith and how people can come together to help
someone in need. It also shows situational irony—Lencho trusted God completely but
doubted the very people who helped him. The chapter highlights innocence, blind faith,
and the goodness in human hearts.
