Tutorial 1:
Nederlands:

Engels:
The European Union (EU) is a group of 27 countries with about 450 million people. It
was created after World War II to secure long-lasting peace, which its members have
enjoyed for more than 70 years. The EU has the world’s largest single market,
allowing the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people. The TEU sets
out the EU’s basic values, goals, and institutions. The TFEU contains =detailed rules
on how the EU functions and how the internal market works. Free movement of
people means EU citizens can live, work, and study in any Member State. Despite
criticism and challenges such as Brexit, the EU provides peace, stability, and
influence, especially for smaller countries.
● Treaty: A written agreement within states, which they sign and consistent of different
rules that they need to follow. It exists in international law
- The countries signed a treaty to reduce trade barriers and protect the
environment.
● Free movement of people under EU law: You are free to go to any member
state to work, study and live. It’s the right to move without any restrictions
within the EU.
- Thanks to the free movement of people, Maria can study in Germany while
living in France.
● The internal/single market: It makes it easy for goods, services, money, and
people to move between countries. It covers all the 27 member countries.
- The EU’s single market allows French wine to be sold easily in Italy without
extra taxes.
, ● TEU (Treaty on European Union): The treaty that establishes the European
Union’s framework, principles, and institutional structure.
- The TEU defines how the European Union’s institutions make decisions.
● TFEU (Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union): The treaty that
details the EU’s powers, policies, and internal market rules.
- The TFEU sets the rules for how goods and services can move freely across
EU member states.
Tutorial 2:
Waarover gaat het?
Nederlands:

This tutorial was about European Union law, its sources, institutions, and the
protection of EU values. EUR-Lex is the official EU website where you can find
treaties, legislation, and judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU). The
EU can only act within its competences, which are based on the principles of
conferral, subsidiarity, and proportionality. There are exclusive, shared, and
supporting competences, which determine whether the EU or the Member States
can act. The EU has seven main institutions, including the European Parliament,
European Commission, Council of the EU, and the CJEU, each with different
roles. Article 7 TEU allows the EU to respond to serious violations of fundamental
values such as democracy and human rights. The case discussed concerned an
Italian citizen in Germany who was expelled after very serious crimes. The CJEU
explained that expulsion after long residence is only allowed on imperative grounds
of public security, which must be interpreted strictly and assessed individually.
