Guided Reflection Questions
Opening Questions
How did the simulated experience of Eva Madison’s case make you feel? This scenario was definitely a little more complicated than the last. It took me a couple of try’s until I really understood what needed to be done. I began to panic when Eva’s pulse ox started to go down and as a result made some bad calls.
I do however feel more confident in what is expected of me
Describe the actions you felt went well in this scenario . Assessment all the way. When I noticed Eva’s Pulse ox start to go down, my initial reaction was to reassess respirations and breathing. I was constantly reassessing as Eva’s vitals began to fluctuate.
Scenario Analysis Questions1
EBPList in order of priority your initial nursing actions identified for Eva Madison based on physical
findings and family interaction. My initial assessment revealed moderate dehydration. I implemented the appropriate saline therapy prescribed. I assessed her pain because she kept saying that her stomach hurt. After implementing the IV therapy I noticed her pulse Ox had dropped below 95% and immediately reassessed respirations and breathing. Respirations where 31 bpm and she complained of having a hard time breathing. EBPWhen initiating a fluid bolus for a dehydrated child, what type of fluid should be given and why? Normal saline is used to treat moderate to severe dehydration. D5 .45 NS is used for electrolyte replenishment. EBPWhat complications might Eva Madison face if her symptoms are not recognized and treated in
a timely manner? Seizures, kidney failure, coma, death.
PCCWhat measures should be initiated to decrease anxiety in Eva Madison’s mother while simultaneously caring for Eva? Involve her in the plan of care. Reassure her. Keep her in the loop. No parent likes to watch hopelessly as strangers poke and prod at their child. Inform her of what your doing and why.
