Question 1: Mind Map – Challenges, Impact on Classroom Management and Solutions
The scenario presented in Bruwer (2025) exposes a deeply systemic crisis in a South African rural
public school. Five interconnected challenges are identifiable: a collapse of professional conduct
among teachers; deteriorating physical infrastructure; normalised social issues including teenage
pregnancy; a culture of low expectations; and the loss of skilled educators to better-resourced sys-
tems abroad. Each challenge carries direct consequences for classroom management and demands
targeted, actionable solutions. The mind map below presents these themes visually, followed by a
detailed explanatory table.
