Organization and Leader Analysis
I will be doing an organization and leader analysis on a hospital I worked for during the
COVID-19 pandemic and will refer to this hospital as ERH. ERH was founded in 1916 and has the
vision of providing cost-efficient, high-quality, consumer-responsive healthcare services through a
variety of delivery methods. ERH is a system of coordinated healthcare and is the predominant
healthcare delivery system for the people in our service area. ERH achieves its mission by being the
only rural hospital and healthcare center within a 50-mile radius. It also provides necessary primary
care, pharmacy and laboratory needs to it's rural population.
Leadership Practices
I have chosen to highlight Julie, the Associate Director of Human Resources, who also serves as
my direct supervisor.
One of Julie's notable leadership practices involves active participation in the hospital's weekly
executive leadership meetings. During these sessions, she delivers comprehensive updates on human
resource initiatives at a high level. Furthermore, these meetings serve as a platform for discussing
hospital-wide strategic matters and setting the direction for various endeavors. Subsequently, each
manager at these gatherings disseminates pertinent information to their respective teams, initiating the
process of addressing assigned tasks. The human resources department must play a pivotal role in
ensuring a seamless flow of information that directly impacts all individuals within the hospital. In
recent times, the primary focus of our human resources division has centered on devising effective
strategies for the reopening of our offices. This multifaceted initiative encompasses tasks such as the
revision of the hospital's policies and procedures related to remote work options, the development and
distribution of a new work schedule form, and the revision of ERH's continuity of operations plan.
These endeavors underscore the critical role that Julie plays in steering the human resources department
and ensuring the hospital's preparedness for evolving challenges.
