and Social Groups
Growing up, grades were always important and expected in my family. I grew up with
two amazing parents who did anything and everything in the world to provide for me, but I just
could not keep up my homework. I had a hard time focusing on the materials and my work ethic
was very poor. My parents expressed their high expectations, they believed in me and that I
could do better than what they were seeing. Because of this push from my family, this influenced
my personal ideas and culture on education because I learned that getting good grades is a goal
that can be achieved, no matter what, as long as you put in the work.
My family’s expectations on education influenced my success as an educator on the fact that I
have been through the difficulty of finding motivation to study and complete assignments
regardless of the content’s difficulty level. Since I work in the school with students, I will be
more helpful and open to allowing extra time for work if needed or with their schooling.
An individual’s personality grows from the family and social groups that they spend the
most time with. This effects their lives greatly. The way that you treat others and speak to people
impacts the way that you see the world and it effects the way that your life turns out. The best
thing to do is surround yourself with family and friends who will do their best for you, be
positive, and be good influences. The more that you surround yourself with positivity, the better
you will see the world. But, if you are surrounded by negativity, this will change your view in the
worst way. My personal life and culture have been affected by both values because I have been
surrounded by both the negative and the positive outlooks on life. I had family who was there for
me and did everything they could to help me succeed in life, but I was surrounded with the
wrong social groups.
My thoughts and values on social groups and my family has impact my success as an educator
because I have experienced many different friendships and have observed how they can affect
the individuals in them. This experience has affected my successful as an educator with
culturally diverse students since I have observed the different peer groups and how they socialize
and function, I can also see the effects that they have on a student’s ability to learn. This will help
me to determine what support is needed for who and how they will need to be supported in the
most affective way.
I have some experience with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds in my job as a
paraprofessional. I have aided students, teachers, and other school staff from a variety of
