, Introduction

This assignment explores the meaning of an organisation and discusses important elements such as its
definition, vision, and mission. An example of a real organisation is also used to explain how
organisations operate in practice. Furthermore, the assignment looks at the features of a traditional
organisation by observing a family-owned business in the community. Lastly, it explains how different
academic disciplines such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, and political science help us
understand organisational behaviour and how people function within organisations.

An organisation refers to a group of individuals who cooperate and coordinate their efforts in order to
achieve shared goals. Within an organisation, people perform different roles and responsibilities while
following established procedures and guidelines. Organisations use various resources such as finances,

deliver products or services that satisfy the needs of society or customers. They normally have a clear
structure, leadership, and management processes that guide how work is carried out (Daft, 2020).

A key element of every organisation is its vision and mission. A vision statement describes what the
organisation hopes to achieve in the long term and the future position it aims to reach. It motivates
employees and provides a sense of direction for the organisation. The mission statement, however,
explains the organisation’s main purpose and outlines what it does on a daily basis to achieve its vision.
It usually includes information about the organisation’s activities, values, and the stakeholders it serves
(Griffin, Phillips & Gully, 2020).

Africa. The company operates supermarkets that provide food, groceries, and household items to
millions of customers across the continent. Shoprite’s vision is to become the most affordable and
accessible retailer in Africa. Its mission focuses on offering quality products at affordable prices while
contributing to community development and creating employment opportunities.

In this organisation, different employees such as cashiers, supervisors, and store managers work
together to provide efficient service to customers and ensure that the company achieves its goals. Each
employee has a specific responsibility within the organisational structure. This example demonstrates
