This document provides detailed workings, clear explanations, and well-structured solutions for the BPT1501 Assignment 1 (QUALITY ANSWERS) Semester 1 2026 .. Ms Diphego is a terrific singer and grade 12 mathematics teacher at Reholegile High School. At last year's matric dance at Reholegile, she sang for her learners the popular Shandesh song called "Modimo o re dirile dichopper", which translates into English as "God made us helicopters". All matric learners, their parents and the teachers were dancing and singing along. Of course, Diphego's singing skills are not the reason teachers from her school nominated her for the 2025 National Teachers' Award. In testimonials, Diphego's colleagues describe her not only as someone who makes mathematics fun but also as someone who cares about her learners as people. She makes every learner love mathematics by making it more practical. In the words of Reholegile principal, Mr Diphefo. "Her connection to the learners is number one. Whether she is singing for them, giving them homework in class or working with them in the community, she always has her learners' interests at heart". Diphefo continues to say that learners need someone they can trust, someone who knows they are looking out for them. For many, she is that person, and she is the reason they want to come to school. Ms Diphego did not always aspire to be a teacher. She had a seventh-grade mathematics teacher who left a lasting impression on her life. After matriculating, she went to the University of the North and studied pharmacology. However, during her university studies, she will often assist grade 12 mathematics learners with extra classes. It was during this time that she remembered her seventh-grade mathematics teacher, whom she considered the best teacher she had ever had. After graduating with her pharmacy degree, she decided to be a teacher. She has been a teacher for twenty years now and has never looked back. Identify the four roles of a teacher that Ms Diphego fulfilled in her teaching. (2X4 = 8) Give an example of each role that Ms Diphego performed. (3X4 = 12)

, Seven Roles of a Teacher Demonstrated by Ms Diphego

1. Learning mediator

A learning mediator is a teacher who guides and supports learners so that learning
becomes meaningful and accessible to everyone. The teacher creates an
encouraging learning environment, explains difficult concepts clearly and considers
the different abilities and needs of learners. The educator must also communicate
effectively and use appropriate teaching strategies so that learners can understand
the subject content.

Ms Diphego demonstrates this role by making mathematics practical and enjoyable
for her learners. Her colleagues explain that she makes mathematics fun and helps
learners understand the subject easily. By simplifying complex concepts and making
lessons interesting she helps learners develop confidence in mathematics.
