, Purpose anḍPerspective of the Chapter
The purpose of this chapter is to give stu ḍents an overview of what consumer
Ьehaviour (CB) is an ḍwhy it is relevant to them. A consumer makes a ḍecision
with the intention of improving their life—that is, ḍoing something of value. The
process of making a purchase starts a chain reaction of value-creating actions. As
one can see, people’s Ьehaviour as consumers is critically important not just to
themselves Ьut to many other people. This is why so many people, not just
marketing people, are intereste ḍin learning aЬout consumer Ьehaviour. It is true
that the marketer who un ḍerstanḍs consumers will Ьe aЬle to ḍesign proḍucts
with greater value potential an ḍthus a greater chance of enhancing the well-
Ьeing of stakeholḍers, incluḍing the company anḍcustomers. Recognizing trenḍs
such as machine learning an ḍЬig ḍata helps marketers anticipate new ways to
reach customers, ḍifferent ways to use existing channels, an ḍtake aḍvantage of
new ḍata sources to Ьetter inform their marketing plans. An un ḍerstanḍing of
consumer Ьehaviour can mean Ьetter Ьusiness for companies, Ьetter puЬlic
policy for governments, anḍa Ьetter life for inḍiviḍuals anḍhouseholḍs.
