of the community. African communitarian philosophy offers two
important frameworks for understanding this issue. Ifeanyi Menkiti
argues that personhood is something that develops through participation
in the community and fulfilling social responsibilities, a view associated
with radical communitarianism. In contrast, Kwame Gyekye argues that
individuals possess innate dignity and moral worth, although they still
exist within communities. This perspective is associated with moderate
communitarianism.
