Discrete data is data that takes on categorial values and cannot be added together or divided.
Continuous data is data that can take on continuum of values, such as fractions and decimals, as
opposed to discrete data (Oachs & Watters). In health information research, the difference
between discrete and continuous data is how they are used. Discrete data is made up of
countable values and is often used to classify information or identify patterns. Continuous data
represents measurable values and is used to perform statistical analyses and track trends.
