Question 1
1.1) There are a number of tools which can be used to improve linguistic and
geographical barriers amongst students. To help improve language barriers
teachers could use applications such as leapfrog and audible. The teacher
can also create Whatsapp groups and an online library where students can
access the same information anytime, anywhere to help with geographical
barriers.
1.2) Through using the leapfrog application learners can learn new words along
with their spelling, weather they are at school or at home. This application
uses different kinds of games and activities which focusses on spelling and
word pronunciation to improve speech. Audible is an application where
learners can access audiobooks, tv programs and even online newspapers
and magazines. Through listening to audiobooks learners can pick up on
words which will also improve their vocabulary, pronunciation and their
reading accuracy. Through creating Whatsapp groups learners can work
together on assignments and constantly be connected with each other and
the teacher no matter where they are. This breaks the geographical barrier
completely as students can communicate with each other no matter where
they are. This way students can also help each other and share ideas and
work together on group projects without having to travel. There should also be
a library created online which learners can access to do research. A digital
library is much more suitable in todays day and age as students are much
more technologically driven. Through the online library they should be able to
access all study material as well as encyclopaedias, reading books and
educational books suitable for research. This once again breaks the
geographical barrier as students won’t have to travel to access a library, they
can do it while in the classroom or even at home.
