声母 (Initials) pronunciation practice:
b – sounds similar to the “b” in boy (not strongly aspirated)
p – similar to the “p” in pen, but with a stronger burst of air
m – pronounced like the “m” in mother
n – the same as the “n” in name
l – like the “l” in love
h – similar to the “h” in hat, produced slightly deeper in the throat
韵母 (Finals) pronunciation practice:
a – pronounced “ah” as in father
o – short rounded sound, like “or”
e – similar to “uh”, produced from the back of the mouth
i – “ee” sound as in see
u – “oo” as in food
ü – similar to the German “ü”; say “ee” while rounding your lips
ao – sounds like “ow” in cow
en – like “en” in taken
ie – pronounced “yeh”
in – sounds like “een”
ing – “eeng” with a nasal ending
uo – sounds like “wo”
