When did you first become concerned about Eleanor's reading and
spelling skills?
When Eleanor was in the second grade, I began to have concerns. I
voiced my concerns to her school. It took two years for the learning
specialist at the school to identify areas of concern, and she was
then referred for private speech-language therapy. At Eleanor's
school, the learning specialist only identifies areas of concern, and
then they always refer out for services since they do not provide
intervention services at the school.

What were the concerns she was referred for?
Eleanor was referred for trouble with advanced decoding and
sounding out words. Additionally, reading comprehension was
brought up as a concern by the learning specialist.

What changes or progress have you noticed since she started
therapy?
I have noticed a change in terms of her reading out loud. Her flow
and pace when reading are much improved. Eleanor's spelling
continues to be problematic, especially if she is writing freeform. It
