Origin:
• Trapezium
• Flexor retinaculum

Insertion:
• Proximal phalanx of thumb

Innervation:
• Median nerve

Action:
• Flex thumb at metacarpophalangeal
joint

Origin:
• Trapezium
• Flexor retinaculum

Insertion:
• Metacarpal 1

Innervation:
• Median nerve

Action:
• Medial rotation of the thumb

ADDUCTOR POLLICUS Thenar muscle of the hand

Origin:
• Transverse head - metacarpal 3
• Oblique head - capitate, metacarpals
2&3

Insertion:
• Proximal phalanx of thumb
• Extensor hood of the thumb

Innervation:
• Ulnar nerve

Action:
• Adducts thumb

PALMARIS BREVIS Hypothenar muscle of the hand

Origin:
• Palmar aponeurosis
• flexor retinaculum

Insertion:
• Skin (medial margin of hand)

Innervation:
• Ulnar nerve

Action:
• improves grip
