A. Describe three applicable SDOH for Bobby (Scenario One).
Economic stability is one SDOH that applies to Bobby. Sadly, Bobby’s
mother passed from breast cancer, which leaves their family with a lot of
medical bills and some financial trouble. His father works night shifts to
make up the difference, which helps the family's finances but makes it
harder to stick to their daily routines, like eating together. Economic
instability makes it hard for families to consistently meet their basic health
needs, especially for children. (Office of Disease Prevention and Health
Promotion, 2020)
Another important SDOH is the neighborhood and built environment. Bobby
lives in a rural area where there aren't many places to buy food. The only
store close by is a small discount store, and the easiest place to get food
after school is at the gas station. Not being able to get affordable, healthy
food is a known cause of unhealthy eating habits in rural areas. (ODPHP,
2020)
The third SDOH that applies is the social and community context. Bobby's
mother died, and his father works overnight, so there are fewer adults
around to watch him and give him emotional support during important parts
of the day, including meal times. These social disruptions can change how
kids do things, how they deal with problems, and how healthy they are
overall. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2020)
B. Describe three applicable SDOH for Annie (Scenario Two).
For Annie, economic stability is also an important SDOH, even though she
lives in a wealthy area. Because housing costs are going up, her mothers
have to work long and late hours. Even when overall income seems to be
enough, money problems can make it hard to spend time with family, plan
meals, and stick to a daily routine. (ODPHP, 2020)
Another SDOH that also applies to Annie is the neighborhood and the built
environment. Annie lives in a city, which makes it easy for her to get to
