TITLE: Senses
NOTES:
▪ Sensory info essential for intellectual functioning,
personality, life sustaining properties.
o sense pain: no sense = can't remove self from
harm; prison in solitary confinement
= hallucinations and intellectual decline.
o Info gathered by senses = vital for life
o Detect changes in environment
o line reception = sensory receptor: detect
senses & convert one form of energy to
another, gather environmental light -> nerve
signal -> brain
o sense organs: nervous tissue & enhance
response receptors in body:
1. thermo: heat/cold;
2. photo: light;
3. chemo: chemical(odor/taste);
4. nociceptors: pain
o 2 broad categories:
▪ general senses (muscles, joints, organs):
resp to stimuli: pain, touch, widely
▪ special senses: head, in by CRANIAL
NERVE: vision, hearing, taste,
equilibrium, smell
