2- Something can't cause itself it must have an external cause
3- The prime mover must be outside the universe as the universe cannot cause itself
The prime mover is….
- Non physical and eternal
- Exists in a spiritual way
- Outside time and the universe
- Intelligent
- Doesn't love us, doesn't know we exist or he could change
- Perfect so contemplates himself 24/7
Prime Mover Strengths
- Explains how the universe came about
- Christianity God= PM
- Immaterial explains his unchanging state
Prime Mover weaknesses
- Aristotle never wrote anything down
- Russell, Dawkins- no sense to talk about the telos of the universe as it is just a result of chance
- Irrelevant as he does not interact with us at all
On the heavens
- Prime Mover set Rings into motion as they pulled to him (gravity )as he cannot be aware of
them
