HCPC registrants must practise within the legal and ethical boundaries
-National DRLs part of legislative framework of the profession, within which we work
-Aims to limit ionising radiation dose
-This is of central importance to Radiography
-DRLs are maximum dose levels for typical examinations for averaged sized patients
-DRLs are limits not targets
-NDRLs reviewed every 5 years by Health Security Agency
,Following local rules
-ALARP
-P.A.U.S.E.D

-Maintain competence to practise by CPD (adaptive technique, safe equipment use, legislative
compliance, IT systems, best practice innovation)
-Allows for safe high quality diagnostic images = improved patient care
Infection Control & Infectious Patients - correct answers-HCPC registrants must establish and maintain a
safe practice environmentJurisdiction of H&S@W
-Contagion and HCAIs is a particular risk for immunocompromised patients-Communicating the infection
status of a patient is vitally important information-Consistently follow infection control protocols (hand
hygiene, wearing gloves and aprons, bare below the elbow are all very important at halting microbial
transmission)
-Faecal-oral disease or a C. diff disease, may require a deep decontamination with chlorine - as opposed
to a standard surface clean following a non infectious patient
HOW TO PROCEED
-Justify-Inpatient = sent for end of the day
-HCPC registrants must practise in a non-discriminatory manner and maintain safety-2 people to do the
x-ray: (1) Clean (2) Dirty
-Equipment covered with radiolucent disposables
- This ensures a safe environment benefiting staff, public and patients and is a policy requirement
