Define "Critical path", "Slack time", "Resource Levelling" and "Dummy activity" with reference to
PERT and CPM.
Critical Path: Will show exactly how long it takes for a project or job to get done. It will also
show the minimum amount of time that is needed to complete the project or job.
Slack time: Slack time is the most time you can delay a project or job after its early start without
messing up the overall deadline.
Resource Leveling: It's a way of managing projects that spots when too much work is assigned
or schedules clash. Which will help finish the project on time using the resources you've got.
Dummy Activity: This is an activity that does not require us to use any of the resources but will
still show us how much we rely on technology.
An architect has been awarded a contract to prepare plans for an urban renewal project. The
job consists of the following activities and their estimated value. Draw a critical path arrow
diagram for this project, indicate the critical path and calculate the total slack and free slack for
each activity.
