Asian students - problems they can ignore, poor grasp of English,
so spoke in a childish way, students felt ashamed when teachers
mispronounced names or expressed disapproval of customs

than others for the same behaviours

This was as a result of racialised expectations

Teachers expected black students to present more discipline
problems

When teachers acted on this misinterpretation, pupils responded
