MATH 110 7.0: Hypothesis Testing (Portage learning)
7.1: Basic Definitions
First, we will give some definitions:
Null hypothesis, H0, is the assumption or hypothesis that is to be tested. We assume that
the null hypothesis is true until proven otherwise.
Alternate hypothesis, H1, is the hypothesis for which we are trying to gather evidence.
If we prove that the alternate hypothesis is true, then we reject the null hypothesis. If we
cannot prove that the alternate hypothesis is true, then we do not reject the null
hypothesis.

MATH 110 8.0: Comparisons Involving Means and Proportions
Independent Samples: Inferences Involving Differences
Between Means
We often desire to find confidence intervals for the difference between two population
means. First of all, we will consider independent samples. Suppose that:
µ1 and µ2 are the means for population 1 and for population 2, respectively.
σ1 and σ2, are the standard deviations for population 1 and for population 2, respectively.
n1 and n2 are the number of samples from population 1 and from population 2,
respectively.

MATH 110 Descriptive Statistics: Tabular, Graphical, & Numerical Method
How to Summarize Qualitative Data Using Tables &
Graphs
We will begin this section by looking at a frequency distribution. A frequency
distribution is a tabular representation of the summary data that shows the numerical
count of items in each class in the data set.
Example 2.1
Look at the following data set in Table One:
Table 2.1 is a list of cars sold at the Ajax Used Car Emporium for the month of July 2014.
The sales data displayed in this manner is not particularly useful to Ajax. D...
