aviation industry.
The safety of employers, employees and passengers is very important. Employers will make sure
they implement safe working practices to ensure the safety of self and others in the aviation
industry. This could be implemented by risk assessments. Risk assessments are the overall process or
method where the employer will identify the hazards and risk factors that have the potential to
cause harm, then it will have to be analysed and evaluate the risk associated with the hazard, and
then the employer should determine appropriate eliminate the hazard or control the risk when the
hazard can not be eliminated. Risk assessments are very important as it implements safe working
practices, this is because it creates awareness of hazards and risks, identifies who may be at risk,
prevent injuries or illnesses and meets legal requirements where applicable. Risk assessments will
ensure hazards are aware by employers and employees. A hazard is anything that has the potential
to cause harm or damage.
Another way, safe working practices will be implemented will be by staff or union consultation. This
is where staff will have a meeting where they will be consulting on how to implement safe
environment for employees and employers. Employers must consult their employees on health and
safety because it will have benefits for the business as well as ensuring everyone is safe. The benefits
it can have for business include: increased productivity, higher levels of workplace motivation. The
results of consulting employees inn health and safety can result in a healthier and safer work place
(employees can also help employers identify hazards, asses risks and develop ways to control or
remove risks). It can also result in a stronger commitment to implementing decisions or actions,
better decisions about health and safety and greater co-operation and trust. Also the health and
safety representative will be involved in these staff consultation as they will pass on information
back to employees if they need to know.
Following instructions and following standard operating procedures also implement health and
safety work practices. This is because it ensure all employees follow the correct instructions or
procedures to make sure they complete their task correctly without being injured or harmed. Some
companies have their own SOPs which will need to be followed by their staff to ensure they provide
a safe working practice.
A hazard is a danger or risk. Hazards can be found everywhere in the airport. Hazards are always
found when an aircraft is moving, if there are moving vehicles, aircraft engines and propellers,
helicopter rotors and aircraft noise. When there is an aircraft moving, employees should never walk
across it, employees are expected to walk behind it.when there are moving vehicles, it is best to stay
alert, listen and look around you. Due to this, high visibility clothing are required to be worn when
airside. All employees are advised to stay away from aircraft engines and propellers and if an
employee need too walk across it, it is advised they walk behind it. Staff re advised to wear hearing
protection when working airside so they do not get injured or harmed due to the amount of noise
aircraft produced.
