Hoe werkt de stimulant cocaïne?

-Blokkeert heropname van dopamine, noradrenaline en serotonine - agonist voor dopamine (verlengt effecten van neurotransmitters) Blokkeert dopamine transporteurs - moleculen in het membraan welke normaal dopamine van de synapsen verwijderen en ze terugbrengen naar presynaptische neuronen waardoor de reuptake van dopamine geblokkeerd wordt. hierdoor verdwijnt dopamine uiteindelijk sneller dan dat het door het lichaam weer aangemaakt kan worden. Hiernaast blokkeert het ook de heropname van noradrenaline en serotonine.

Hoe werkt de opiate morfine?

- stimuleert endorfine receptoren, wat de afgifte van GABA inhibeert werkt langzamer dan heroine, omdat het minder snel in de hersenen terecht kan komen.
