CBASP is minstens zo effectief is als de standaard evidence-based behandelingen TAU (Treatment as usual) voor (chronische) depressie.

- van CT is aangetoond dat het een blijvend effect heeft dat langer duurt dan het einde van de behandeling (in vergelijking met eerdere ADM)
- IPT kan mogelijk een profylactisch (voorkomend) effect hebben
Het is nog steeds niet duidelijk of CBASP effectiever is dan therapieën die niet specifiek zijn ontworpen voor chronische depressie (CGt en IPT, welke ook effectief zijn gebleken bij de behandeling van chronische depressie)
Ondersteunende therapie (SP) wordt als controleconditie gebruikt
Patiënten met chronische depressie kunnen verbeteren
