In this essay I will argue that utilitarianism cannot be defended. I will first begin with act utilitarianism, then show how act utilitarianism fails, moving onto rule utilitarianism. I will show that rule utilitarianism collapses into act utilitarianism, and then discuss preference utilitarianism and problems with it.
