What is the capacity and duration of long term memory?

Capacity: theoretically unlimited, and cannot realistically be tested ||| Duration: also hard to test, but is likely to last the majority of a person's life

What is the phonological loop?

= deals with auditory information in speech form - the 'inner voice'. Can hold what can be said in around 2 seconds ||| Phonological store: stores the words you hear ||| Articulatory process = maintenance rehearsal

What is episodic memory?

Timestamped memory of personal events and experiences (episodes). Needs conscious effort to recall even if this is very quick

What is a weakness of the long term memory theory?

Might only be 2 types of LTM: Cohen (1980) believes episodic and semantic are stored together in declarative memory (needs conscious effort to recall)

What is a study that supports the weapon focus effect?

Johnson + Scott: waiting room, heard an argument and saw someone walk out of the room carrying something (one group saw a knife, the other saw a pen). Low anxiety (pen) = 49% identified in a lineup, high anxiety (knife) = 33%
