According to Cronbach, a psychological test is a systematic procedure for comparing the behaviour of two or more people. Psychological tests include three important components:
1. Tests involve behavioural samples of some kind.
2. The behavioural samples must be collected in some systematic way.
3. The purpose of the tests is to compare the behaviours of two or more people.

However, covariance does not provide clear information about the magnitude of the association between two variables. Just like in variance, the covariance between two large-scale variables is likely to be larger than a covariance that involves one or more small-scale variables but one can only say something about the strength of covariance when it is put into context.
