20-Year-Old Male With Acute Eye Problem (Bacterial Conjunctivitis)

“My right eye is red, painful, and has thick yellow discharge.”
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS (HPI)
The patient is a 20-year-old male who presents to the outpatient clinic with acute onset right eye
redness, irritation, and purulent discharge that began 2 days ago. Symptoms started suddenly and have
progressively worsened. The patient reports yellow-green discharge, eyelids sticking together upon
waking, mild eye pain, itching, and foreign body sensation.
He denies blurred vision, photophobia, trauma, chemical exposure, recent eye surgery, or contact lens
use. He reports recent close contact with a roommate who had “pink eye” one week ago. No history of
similar episodes.

No chronic illnesses
No history of eye disease
No recent hospitalizations
