★​ Potential Verbs: Used to say someone “can” or “has the ability to” do something.

Conjugates as a regular る verb.

○​ る verbs - Drop the final る and add られる

■​ I.e. 食べられる, 見られる, ねられる

○​ う verbs - Drop the final う and add える

■​ I.e. 行ける, 話せる, 買える

○​ Irregular verbs

■​ する - できる (Takes particle が)

■​ くる - 来られる

★​ ~し: Used when listing, or implying, multiple reasons. Takes short form.

○​ I.e. (reason 1) し、 (reason 2) し、 (situation).

■​ い adjectives - Normal adjective form

■​ な adjectives - add だ (i.e. きれいだし)

■​ Nouns - add だ (i.e. 学生だし)

★​ 〜そうです: Guessing what something is like based on impressions. Is a な adjective. (not

used for adjectives that describe appearance, such as きれい)

○​ い adjectives - drop final い - add そうです

■​ Exception for いい - よさそうです

○​ な adjectives - just add そうです (no な)

★​ 〜てみる: “Trying something.”

○​ て form

■​ I.e. ピザを食べてみました。

○​ Always written in hiragana (not て見る)

★​ なら: Contrast between two things. Or limitations.

○​ I.e. 日本語を読めますか

■​ 。ひらがななら読めます。(limitation)

○​ ブラジルに行ったことがありますか。

■​ チリなら行ったことがありますが、ブラジルは行ったことがありません。

★​ Frequency: (period)に (frequency) - (frequency) per (period)

○​ I.e. 一週間に十四時間アルバイトをします

★​ ほしい: (I) want (something). Follows い adjectives conjugation. Takes が particle.

○​ I.e. 私はぬいぐるみがほしいです

○​ Not used for other people’s desires. (add ~と言っています)

★​ ~かもしれません: Used to say something is a possibility. “Maybe.” Uses short form.

○​ I.e. 明日は雨がふるかもしれません。

★​ あげる, くれる, もらう - To give (もらう - receive)

○​ あげる - Someone else is the recipient. (i.e. I give you, you give someone else)

■​ Recipient takes に particle

■​ ~てあげる - Something is done for someone else as a favor.
