, A. The Need
Our school must implement a consistent, structured, standards-based writing program
across grades three through five. Writing instruction varies widely among all classrooms,
leading to inconsistent student outcomes.
A1. Existing Data
This need was identified through multiple data sources, including assessment results,
writing, samples, teacher surveys, and PLC notes. Over the past three years, ELA assessment
data have shown that students' writing scores, particularly in organization, evidence, and
conventions, fall below their reasonably well scores in reading comprehension. At the end of the
year, level writing samples are collected for each student to show a variation in their writing
quality and structure. Additionally, teachers have expressed concerns about lacking clear writing
expectations and resources. Teachers often request support for aligning writing instruction with
grade-level standards to ensure vertical alignment across all grades.
A2. Two Specific Examples
Students will receive explicit instruction in all key genres by adopting a consistent
standard and aligning the reading curriculum. This consistency will enhance their writing skills,
