Clinical pathology - Answers the study of disease by means of body secretions, excretion, and
other body fluids in the diagnosis of disease.
Physiological pathology - Answers the study of changes in the body function due to disease.
Medicolegal pathology - Answers also known as forensic pathology, this is the study of disease
to ascertain the cause and manner of death.
General pathology - Answers deals with the study of the widespread processes of disease such
as inflammation, degeneration, necrosis or cellular death, repair, and without reference to
particular organs or organ systems
Special pathology - Answers deals with the specific features of disease in relation to particular
organs or organ systems (systemic pathology)
Autopsy - Answers a postmortem examination of the organs and tissues of a body to determine
cause of death or pathological condition. also known as a necropsy
Lesion - Answers A circumscribed area of pathologically altered tissue a single patch in skin
disease.
Cause of death - Answers Any injury or disease that produces a physiological derangement in
the body that results in the death of the individual. Ex. Gunshot wounds, stab wounds, lung
cancer or blood clots.
Mechanism of death - Answers The physiological derangement produced by the cause of death
that results in death. Examples include bleeding, blood poisoning or a faulty heart beat.
Manner of death - Answers Explanation of how the cause of death came about. The manner of
death is generally classified on death certificates as either ;/atural, homicide, suicide, accident
and undetermined or unclassified.
