This coursework includes P4 P5 M2 D2. It explains and goes through in-depth the different challenges vulnerable people will face on a day-today basis such as: practical challenges, skills challenges, acceptance and belief challenges, motivational challenges, and communication challenges. It then goes into more analysis of the different challenges and introducing strategies to help minimise these challenges. This also uses Argyle's communication cycle and Tuckmans stages of group formation to underpin communication issues vulnerable people may have.

Unit 5
P2
1. Explain the different types of challenges that may occur in the case of Nusrat, Alice and
Martin.
Awareness and Knowledge
Within the health care sector, there are vulnerable people who have different types of challenges that
they face on a day-to-day basis. This could be awareness and knowledge challenges. This is when
service users are unaware of the health benefits and legislations that are provided for them. This
means that they are at a disadvantage as they do not know all the facts about their health care. Alice
could suffer with this type of challenge because as she may be unaware of how to live a healthy
lifestyle. As she drinks heavily she might not know the risks and or aware of the damage that comes
from alcohol leaving her at a disadvantage. Professionals may use an observation method to identify
this challenge that Alice is facing. An observation is where service providers observe a patient to look
at changes and to address them if this continues to worsen. Professionals may be observing Alice’s
diet and to see whether or not her health is improving. From this a professional can talk with Alice
individually to inform her what’s making her have an unhealthy diet and from this he can give
information for her to overcome her diet. He could also talk about the risks of having a bad diet and
what will come of it if she decides to change her lifestyle. A strategy professionals could put into
place to help Alice overcome her awareness and knowledge challenge is by implementing educational
materials. These materials consist of leaflets, posters, presentations and wall displays. These materials
help inform people about current thinking on how to live healthily and also to give advice on how to
overcome these challenges. They help raise awareness and to provide information for people who are
unaware. This would help Alice overcome her challenge because it would provide information and
minimise Alice’s awareness and knowledge challenge. They could create posters which could be
placed in her GP surgery offering her information and making her more aware of the effects of
alcohol.
Practical challenges
Within the health care there are vulnerable people who have different types of challenges that they
face. This could be practical challenges. This is when a service user cannot do things due to lack of
resources. Nusrat could potentially suffer with this type of challenge because she suffers with learning
difficulties. Professionals could identify that Nusrat has a potential challenge by using focus groups.
A focus group is when professionals come together to share ideas, usually in small groups, and they
discuss issues and make changes in someone’s care plan to sit the needs of an individual better. This
may be because professionals could have noticed she is struggling with different types of strategies
with her and they could share ideas and come up with a strategy. This could be that the professionals
could help minimise Nusrats practical challenge’s by using a training course. This is when coursers
are available to help and support people who face these challenges. They could suggest it to Nusrat
and her mum to attend one of these courses as this will help them both understand Nusrat’s challenge
and how to overcome it.
Skills challenges
Within the health care there are vulnerable people who have different types of challenges that they
face. This could be skills challenges. This is when a service user has a challenge in learning new skills
such as reading, using computers. Professionals could identify that Nusrat has a potential challenge by
using questionnaires. Questionnaires are a set amount of questions given to a group of service users
where they can anonymously answer and professionals then discus what is wrong and to make
changes to suit the needs of an individual. In Nusrat’s case, professionals could make a questionnaire

, to a group of people including Nusrat and she could discuss the challenges she faces when learning
new skills and from this they can help her to minimise this challenge. By helping, they can use people
such as opinion leaders. These are people with an active voice that influences the public such as the
NHS. They could talk about the problems Nusrat had spoken about in the questionnaire and others
and explain how to overcome the challenges. They are also asked advice so Nusrat could get into
contact with them and ask for information and advice.
Acceptance and belief challenges
Within the health care there are vulnerable people who have different types of challenges that they
face. This could be acceptance and belief challenges. This is when a service user cannot accept their
own disabilities or self-worth and find it hard to come to terms with them. Professionals could
identify that Alice has a potential challenge by talking informally to her. Talking informally is
speaking one to one between the professional and the service user and they then see what challenges
an individual is facing. In Alice’s case, a professional could sit down with Alice and talk about the
challenge she faces and by this they can try to help to minimise her challenge. They could do this by
trying to help her understand what is going on with her in the best way possible and try to reassure her
on things she may be feeling unsure about. They can then use educational information materials like
posters around the G.P. surgery so Alice and people like Alice who cannot accept what they are going
through can use this. It will help minimise the challenge as it will educate people.
Motivational challenges
Within the health care there are vulnerable people who have different types of challenges that they
face. This could be motivational challenges. This is when a service user has a lack of motivation to
get better and top get a job. Professionals could identify that Alice has a potential challenge by
observation. As Alice could be isolating herself then it could be because of her depression from the
alcohol. Professionals could observe her health to see if it is improving and she may need a higher
dosage of anti-depressants or to find another strategy to help her get back involved with her life and to
become motivated. Professionals could use opinion leaders to come into the surgery for Alice. An
opinion leader is a well-known individual that has the ability to influence public opinion, they also are
available to ask advice. This could help minimise Alice’s challenge as she could ask questions to get
involved in activities as she looks up to these people and may feel safer and sure about talking with
them.
Communication challenges
Within the health care there are vulnerable people who have different types of challenges that they
face. This could be communication challenges. This is when a service user loses their sight or
hesitates in speech. This could link into Nusrat as she suffers with learning difficulties so this
challenge may occur with her. Professionals could identify that Nusrat has a potential challenge by
using questioners. Nusrat could answer questions anonymously of what the health care could do better
to suit her learning communication. To help minimise this challenge, professionals could advise
Nusrat and her mother to attend a training course. This could help as they could see what their options
are when learning communication and what best helps Nusrat with learning and if she feels
comfortable with that strategy

2. Discuss the policies that are used in health and social care services and describe how they can
help minimise challenges.
In health care, there are certain frameworks that help minimise challenges for service users. The first
framework is the NHS patient experience framework. This is based around eight elements to give
