(Group Members)
(Name of the lab)
Part 1/Part 2
A. Method
A.1 Things needed:
The goals and/or the predictions of the experiment
The choice of equipment and devices
Related physical formulas, statistical and analysis tools
Variables to vary, measure, and keep constant; Ranges of variables
Other things needed based on the manual (for example, summary and preliminary
findings of “Quick Check”, the design of the experiment to test a model)
A.2 Notes
*The goal of the lab
Usually the goal of an experiment is to test a model or a hypothesis, not to prove
it. Please pay more attention to the difference between these two concepts
*Formulas, statistical and analysis tools
Please include the key physical formula. Please include and briefly explain the
analysis tools especially when an analysis tool is involved in this lab class for the first
time. For example, you should mention that t score will be used to compare 2 quantities
when t score appears for the first time in this lab class (i.e., in Lab 1). You should also
mention the criteria for indistinguishable/inconclusive/distinguishable results, either in
“Method” or “Analysis” part.
B. Data and Analysis
B.1 Things needed:
Raw data of all the valid trials
Averages of trials (under the same experimental conditions)
Systematic uncertainty
Random uncertainties
Final results of measurements (e.g. “1.23 ± 0.02 s”)
Results obtained after calculations (e.g., all t-scores in Lab 1)
