D081 INNOVATIVE AND STRATEGIC
THINKING
A1. Organizational Culture, Structure, and Mission/Vision
Influence on Decision-Making
, 1. Organizational Culture
Using the Competing Values Framework (CVF) provides insight into how effectively an
organization functions through its culture, leadership approach, and decision-making
practices. Based on the scenario, the U.S. fishing boat manufacturing company demonstrates
a strong Clan (Collaborate) culture, characterized by a family-like atmosphere, shared
values, and high levels of employee involvement. Employees contribute to decision-making,
and founders treat everyone as equals, strengthening unity and shared purpose.
This cultural orientation positively affects the company’s market entry into India. By
involving Indian fishers in the design process and collaborating with the National Fisheries
Development Board (NFDB), the company demonstrates transparency and cultural
sensitivity. This approach aligns with the company’s collaborative values and helps foster
trust—critical for entering an international market.
A2. Organizational Structure
The company uses a decentralized organizational structure, which supports collaboration
and encourages information-sharing across all levels. Employees are empowered to offer
input, and decision-making is not limited to upper management. This structure enhances
innovation, increases ownership among team members, and ensures that diverse perspectives
are integrated into strategic decisions.
Decentralization also supports a unified approach toward company goals because employees
feel valued and influential. Although this structure may lengthen discussions, it strengthens
commitment to decisions, especially those related to product redesign and international expansion.
A3. Impact of Culture, Structure, and Mission/Vision on Decision-
Making
1. Culture’s Impact
The manufacturer’s Clan culture fosters open communication, employee empowerment, and
idea-sharing. Incentives for innovative ideas and the practice of letting customers test
prototypes encourage creativity and collaborative decision-making. Employees feel invested
in the organization’s mission, and decisions are made collectively to ensure alignment with
shared goals.
2. Structure’s Impact
