PROP DEPT. - ANSWER
Prop Master- - ANSWER Is the head of the department and in charge of budget and
supervision
of the rest of the workers. He must be a jack of all trades who is capable of whipping
up a sou"é and loading an uzi. Prop Departments will usually job out anything that
cannot be bought o! the shelf, and they must have a wide variety of vendors and
suppliers who can be reached out to at a moments notice. The Prop Master must
also be able to anticipate everything that will be needed in the action of the scene
even if it is not spelled out in the script, and must excel at last minute requests, often
made to night before and sometimes the day of shooting. They tend to book a
lot of overtime
Assistant Prop Master - ANSWER is the right hand man and helper of the Prop Master,
they
mostly run around procuring the items needed. There can be several Assistant Props
on a large job, with a Key Assistant prop overseeing them.
On-Set Prop- - ANSWER Works with the shooting crew and manages the props
provided by his
department. They are responsible for showing the actors how to use props they may
not be familiar with, and must also be able to demonstrate how to shoot a gun, bake

, a cake or work a fly rod. They are also responsible for prop continuity and keeping
track of props that have been established and may be needed for future scenes and
reshoots. There may also be a Key On-set if there is more than one.
SET DEC. - ANSWER
Set Decorator- - ANSWER Is the head of the department and in charge of budget and

of the workers. The Set Decorator is the one who chooses all the objects that dress the sets.
He/
she is the one who analyses the script and characters and provides all the subtle touches
and
details that bring a set to life. The Set Decorator is also responsible for clearances for all set
decor.
Assistant Set Dec.- - ANSWER (if there is one) is usually the one who is actually on site
overseeing the
dressing of the set. He /She shares responsibilities as assigned by the Set Decorator , and
may
have to take up the slack in any area of the department.
Buyer- - ANSWER Travels near and far to buy,order, or rent all the furnishings needed
for the set. The
buyer runs around looking for items that often exist only in the imagination of production,
takes
scores of digital pictures, show them for approval, and with luck gets everything to the set
dressers in time.
Lead Man- - ANSWER Is the lead set dresser, he hires the dressers as needed and
supervises the work
