Psych Meds: • Lithium: Mood stabilizer used primarily in the treatment of bipolar disorder o Considerations: Lithium serum levels Maintenance levels should range between 0.6 to 1.2 mEq/L Levels greater than 1.5 mEq/L can result in toxicity • Signs of Lithium toxicity o GI upset (N/V, diarrhea) o Thirst, polyuria- can progress to oliguria in severe toxicity o Muscle weakness, fine hand tremor progressing to coarse hand tremor, involuntary hand movements o Seizure, coma and death may occur • Treatment: Gastric lavage, administration of mannitol, hemodialysis
