Mental Health Center
Purpose: To explore the concept of the Community Mental Health system.
Objective: Students will select and evaluate a Community Mental Health Center or
Federally Qualified Health Center and formulate one evidenced-based intervention to
improve patient-centered care at the chosen facility.
Process: Select one Community Mental Health Center or a Federally Qualified Health
Center with behavioral health services (a location where you are or would like to
complete clinical hours would be fabulous!) If possible, please visit in person or via
phone to help gather the appropriate information.
Content:
Part One: Provide a one-paragraph overview of the Community Mental Health Centers
(CMHC) history in the United States. Identify one intended goal of their creation.

new patient visit?
Part Three: Analyze the strengths and barriers of facing the clinic you have selected.
Identify ONE gap or barrier; imagine being invited to and accepting a leadership position
at this clinic. What is one evidence-based change you would implement to address a
barrier you identified?
