I often wonder why those crooks would risk their lives to do something so foolhardy and
reckless. Is it because they need some quick money to pride for an ill family member? Or
because they’re drug addicts seeking for cash to fuel their addictions? If guns are truly the main
reason behind all mass shooting tragic events why not ban everything that poses a threat?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “In 2016, Motor vehicle traffic
deaths Number of deaths: 38,748. All firearm deaths Number of deaths 38,658” (2016). The
government did not ban the automobiles because of the high deaths rate related to motor vehicle
accidents, therefore banning the gun will not prevent all the firearm death. I believe the answer to
this issue is a better education system for all the citizens and a better social services allowing the
people living in poverty to have a chance to change and to live the American dream. I often

Research Appraisal 2
The purpose of this paper is to provide an appraisal of the research article titled “The effect of a
quiet environment on the comfort of post-operative infants and young children” (MacKay et al.,
2019). The topics that will be discussed in this paper include a literature review, research
problem, purpose, research question, framework, variables, as well as research design of the
article. The authors of this article consist of three master degree nurses, two bachelor degree
nurses and the director of planning and analysis. All six authors have extensive academic
achievements and adequate clinical experience to meet the qualifications in conducting the study.
For example, Peggy MacKay, Jeanna Hughes, Kelcey Pfeiffer and Kristy Hagler all have in
depth knowledge and expertise of pediatric nursing with the Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN)
certification. Additionally, Tara Ruhlen is the director of planning and analysis at Cook County
Health Department in Chicago, Illinois.
The title of the article is clear and straightforward because the article title conveys that
the authors will discuss and identify the relationship and effects of quiet environment on the
comfort of post-operative infants and young children. The research was done using quantitative
experimental study, the variables are the Face Legs Activity Cry Consolability (FLACC)
Behavioral Scale and noise levels, and the population are infants and children ages ranging from
birth to 6 years admitted to the hospital for a surgical procedure (MacKay et al., 2019). The
abstract of the article was clear to the point with direct reference to the purpose of how quiet
might enhance comfort among individuals in pain, with experimental design, sample include
post-operative patients ages birth to 6 years, intervention of maintain quiet rooms and key result
that no significant difference in comfort levels was noted (MacKay et al., 2019).
