Compartiment (def): Deel van een gebouw begrensd door wanden die de brandvoortplanting naar
aanliggende compartimenten gedurende een bepaalde tijd dient te beletten

Doorvoering (def): Opening in een wand voor nutsvoorzieningen

Brandklasses:




Brandklasse f geeft aan dat een product niet getest is of een heel erg slechte brandreactie heeft

De bevolking in 3 groepen (hogere brandveiligheidseisen voor type 1 dan voor type 2 en 3)

 Type 1: Niet zelfredzame personen (Ziekenhuizen, gevangenissen, etc)
 Type 2: Zelfredzame slapende personen (Appartementen, studentenhomes, etc)
 Type 3: zelfredzame wakende personen (Winkels, sportcentra, kerken, etc)

Een materiaal wordt op 3 zaken gequoteerd:

 Stabiliteit (R): De draagstructuur kunnen garanderen bij een brand
 R120 betekent dat een kolom bv zijn structuur 120 minuten garandeert.
 Vlamdichtheid (E): Vlam aan 1 kant van een muur kunnen houden bv
 Thermische isolatie (I): Thermische isolatie bij deuren
