Topic and Rationale - Multiculturalism
According to data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2024), by the end of the year ending 30
June 2023, the Australian population was 26.6 million people, of which 8.2 million persons (30.83%)
were immigrants. Statistics have shown that Australia is one of the most diverse countries, paying
residence to about 100 religions and about 300 ethnic groups that pride their origins from overseas
(ATS, 2024). This data is indicative of the diversity status of Australia, expressing the need to
develop important values, like intercultural tolerance and cultural competence at the base.
As the country continues to receive more multicultural immigrants, so does the risk of social
injustices, in the forms of bias and discrimination. This can further be orchestrated by laying a racist
foundation for children, sparking volatility in the community, where bigotry and social prejudice will
rule the future. However, this can be averted by introducing multicultural learning to children. Jones
(2016) observes that in their innocence, children are highly receptive and can easily acclimate to
values taught in class and at home. The introduction of multiculturalism programs at kindergarten
could play a pivotal role in the arbitration of cultural competence and the creation of an
accommodating environment for all.
Resource audit

This can serve as an open-ended learning resource useful in promoting the acceptance of different
cultures, races and ethnicities. It also exposing children to understand that person’s with disability

be creatively be enacted. Songs from different cultures invoke different message-delivery style by
use of words and dances that children can easily connect with. Ong (2022) observes that children can
easily retain messages expressed through songs, making them important tools for teaching
multicultural appreciation (Howard, 2014).
c) Intercultural resource package
This resource package is a setup can also help expose children to diversity. The resource includes
fabrics, puppet dolls, pictures and other works of art that can ignite children’s interest to engage in
learning different cultures progressively (Robinson & Jones Diaz, 2017).

Through tales and story books authors can creatively present various themes that make it simple for
