providing personal hygiene
Surgical Asepsis: The use of precise practices to eliminate all microorganisms from an object or area and prevent contamination (sterile technique) e.g. parenteral medication administration,
insertion of urinary catheters, surgical procedures, sterile dressing changes
Indications Nursing Interventions (pre, intra, post)
Pre: Maintain a sterile field, only sterile items in the sterile field. Outer wrapping and 1 inch
border around the edges are not sterile. Any object below waist or above chest is

Potential Complications Nursing Interventions
Infection and/or contamination Perform hand hygiene after contact with anything in
the client's rooms and after touching contaminated
items. Remove all jewelry to facilitate hand
disinfection. Before beginning any task or procedure
that requires aseptic tecnique, health care team
members must check for latex allergies. Use masks,
gloves, gowns, and protective eyewear (proper PPE)
to help control the contact and spread of
microorganisms to staff and clients.
