post-surgery, severe atelectasis, trauma to
the airway or CNS, neurological disorders
(i.e. myasthenia gravis, Guillan-Barre
syndrome, multiple sclerosis), acute
pulmonary edema following MI, COPD
exacerbation, severe asthma attack,
obstructive sleep apnea
Outcomes/Evaluation
Client Education
-Explain the procedure to the client
-Signs of weaning intolerance, plan if it
occurs
-Pulmonary hygiene, TCDB, incentive
spirometer
-Measures to prevent infection
