Week 5: Data Collection & Measurement NR 439 Week 5 Discussion, Data Collection and Measurement 4949 unread replies. replies. Access the following information. You may read the PDF online or download it. American Nurses Association. (2014). Fast facts: The nursing workforce 2014: Growth, salaries, education, demographics & trends. ANA. 1. Review these facts, & describe what the results say about this sample of the nursing workforce. 2. What do you believe was the intent of the researcher who designed the survey? 3. The next process for our study is to collect data. The research design will indicate the best data to be collected. The tools that we use to collect data need to be reliable & valid. Define these terms with respect to research, & explain why they are important. 4. Consider data collection & measurement methods for your nursing clinical issue. Explain how you would collect data & what measurement methods you would use. 5. Professor & class, 6. The nursing workforce article describes the aspects of growth in the nursing profession until 2020. According to these facts, the nursing profession is in high demand with a minimum expecting growth of 15 percent by 2020. Hospitals & other healthcare organizations preferred nurses with a bachelor degree BSN, the Institute of Medicine has established that 80 percent of the nurses should have a bachelor degree or higher by 2020; 55 percent of that goal was already accomplished by 2014. 7. The intent of the researcher who designated the survey was to show nursing profession facts in terms of growth, salaries, education, demographics, & trends. The research design of this survey is a quantitative design based on the statistics from the U.S. Dept. of Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to this week lesson, reliable sources are in terms of research is a term used to determine if the instrument being used is stable or trusted. Characteristics of reliable sources are authority, accuracy, & objectivity. Authority sources are usually sites ending in .edu, .gov, & .org. The article used U.S Dept of Bureau of Labor Statistics identified as a .org website. .Org sites are government websites & usually a good source for statistics. Valid is the term that determines if something is accurate & truthful. Accurate valid resources show clear facts & the accuracy is usually verified by researcher professional authority. 8. My PICOT question is in parents of children between 12 months & 6 years old (P), how does patient education regarding the importance of the MMR vaccination & the unlink relation with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (I) compared with no education regardless of the parental decision (acceptance/rejection) regarding vaccination (C) improve the MMR vaccination rates (O) in a period of 6 months (T). The design of my study will be a clinical trial. This experimental type of study will allow me to see the effects of my intervention. I’ll collect the data through the electronic medical records system of the outpatient facility. The results can be measured after 6 months with the amount of MMR vaccines billed to insurance during that period over the amount of patients on the range of the target population which is children between 12 months & 6 years old, this method will give me quantitative results that can be compared under the same circumstances from the 6 months prior the study. EHR records will allow me not only to determine the increment of MMR vaccines but also other variables such as gender, age, & culture. 9. References: 10. American Nurses Association. (2014). Online Publication. (January 2018) Week 8 Professor & Class, After taking this course, I feel that I have gained a much better understanding of what evidence-based practice really means. “EBP allows nurses to make complex health care decisions based on findings from rigorous or high-quality research reports, clinical expertise, & patient perspectives” (Kueny, Shever, & Titler, 2015).EBP also allows nurses to provide care for patients in the best & safest way possible, because it is backed by evidence. Along with evidence-based practice comes change. People in general, not only nurses & healthcare personnel, have a hard time with change. It is a common barrier to EBP. As mentioned in this week’s lesson, the organization in which the change is occurring may not see the value in it or there may be a lack of support & lack of time to implement a change, even though it is backed by evidence (Chamberlain, 2018). This course has helped me to be more open to future changes in my nursing practice because EBP is helping to improve patient outcomes. References Chamberlain College of Nursing.
